Just What Is A Protective Style?
November 22, 2018

What’s good Tre’ss Bien family ?
So, many of you know I just got my hair braided probably about three weeks ago. I love braids. Sadly, i love anything that would keep me from styling my own hair, but truth be told I’m being reminded weekly how that is not a perspective we need to have. Over the past few weeks, I’ve wanted to take my own head off and place it in my lap and scratch up the dead. You know I’m all about the Science of Hair Care, and one thing I’m reminded of is, if you can’t shampoo your hair, it is NOT a protective style. This fact has concerned me and bothered me for months which lead to me removing many of the services you have grown to love on my menu. I simply don’t see how they have benefited the curly hair community. I know many of us are busy or we simply don’t want to deal with our hair . But when we make the decision to “put it away” we’re actually creating more problems with our hair than we realize. Our scalp and hair requires frequent cleansing in order to stay healthy. I have witnessed many who have compromised the cuticle strands of their hair all for the sake of not having to “do it”. Braids, buns, sewins, crochets, have a tendency over time to weaken and break the hair. Nothing, I’ve learned is a protective style if you wear it all the time. Choose your styles in moderation and don’t over do it. Embrace and have fun with your coils/ curls! Become educated about them and practice a consistent hair care regimen specifically for you.
I hope this helps you on your journey.
Be sure to email me if you have any further questions. Also remember to schedule a consultation after the first of the year when my books re open to new and or returning clients.
And yea, I took my braids down and decided they will be a once a year thing for me. I need to be able to get to this here scalp. 🤷🏾♀️
Blessings ladies.
